About

Welcome to the UNC Heart Sounds Project. Our goal was to digitize and preserve heart sounds recorded from 1969-1975 by Dr. Robert Herrington and UNC pediatric cardiology using the Cambridge AVR-1 heart sound recorder.

Students: For selected, annotated heart sounds from the database: Click here!

For a more in depth discussion of heart auscultation, Dr. Harrington's Primer on Cardiac Auscultation may be a good read.

Listening to sounds requires Javascript and Flash 8 or higher. Use the controls below the table to navigate the archives, and click the column headers to re-sort the table. Headphones or high quality speakers highly recommended!

Special thanks to the Will Bosley and the Beasley Multimedia Center for techincal assistance and time digitizing the original recordings.
